which occupies the whole of the mezzanine area. Wooden ceilings and rustic stone walls create a cosy mountain lodge appeal in this characterful cottage. Step through from the living area to the rear of the cottage, where you will find the beamed en-suite bedroom and the bathroom complete with WC and clawfoot bath. At the opposite end of the cottage is a bright and stylish shower room complete with WC, accessed via the part-covered decking. Another bedroom is located within a separate stone barn conversion a few steps from the main cottage, and benefits from traditional chic interiors and the same incredible far-reaching views. Capercaillie Cottage is superbly well equipped and furnished, with deep leather sofas and high quality appliances throughout. This is a beautiful, detached cottage, situated on the owner’s working farm, which you are welcome to explore with their prior permission. Mackie and Eimar were fantastic hosts nothing too much trouble
The cottage had everything we needed and a lot of thought has gone into making it as comfortable and user friendly as possible

The cottage is out of this world and no expense has been spared. Mackie and Eimear have thought of everything inside and outside of the cottage (the hot tub is AMAZING!!!) and they are the most amazing hosts.
We cannot wait to come back.

We were greeted by a roaring log fire and welcome pack- including daily treats for our dog.
The cottage is well equipped and the friendly owners keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.
Sitting in the hot tub, watching the sun set, over the Braes of Sutherland, will be an enduring memory of a fantastic holiday.
Superb!

Mackie and his family were so welcoming, giving us tips for where to go once we had spent a few days simply recuperating, enjoying the cottage, the incredible landscape and the log fire.
Every detail has been thought of for a warm, homely stay.
We've been to many cottages in the past and none even come close in comparison for either the attention to detail, cleanliness or warmth of welcome. (Even a surprise sledge delivery after some overnight snowfall, that absolutely made a little boy's holiday!).
Thank you so, so much! We've fallen in love with the area and will definitely be back!

The cottage is quirky and has everything you need except maybe bring your towelling dressing gown to help with the dash from the hot tub / shower although towels are provided.
A thoughtful welcome pack was provided and beautiful fresh flowers.
The cottage is warm (the dog loved the underfloor heating), welcoming and romantic and the location is amazing: In the middle of nowhere, unspoilt, but close enough to shops, pubs and beaches. It’s a good base to explore the distilleries and north coast.
The owner is not too far away if help is needed and very much willing to give it without being intrusive. We needed rescuing from the ‘Beast from the East’ and Mackie was an absolute true gent and we can’t thank him enough for his hospitality.
We ended up being snowed in half of our holiday which actually made it pretty special but means we have unfinished business! We will definitely come back and try out the other cottages too ( don’t worry they aren’t near to each other!).
You won’t be disappointed!

Wonderful wonderful owners who were above and beyond fantastic taking our son off to see the sheep bulls etc to rescuing us when we got stuck in the snow!!
Beautiful cottage fully loaded with extras and everything we could wish for.
Simply stunning location!
Will go again!!

Highly recommend this cottage as a get away and to recharge batteries. It's hard to believe the sheep were living here six months ago. Mackie did an amazing restoration, in keeping with the character of the cottage. Incidentally, he is building two other holiday cottages, a different style, but of equal high standard, look out for these as the views are amazing. The holiday homes are going to have hot tubs, they are situated about 2 miles from Capercaillie Cottage.
Furthermore, an unexpected added touch of a bottle of wine, eggs and treats for the dog was lovely.
